Welcome
Welcome to Nassau News, a product of the combined efforts of students, professors, administrators and a variety of volunteers in the Hofstra University School of Communication. I am the ringleader for this enterprise: E. R. Shipp, a longtime columnist for The New York Daily News and, since September, 2005, the Lawrence Stessin Distinguished Professor in Journalism at Hofstra. For our debut, I want especially to thank Ron Chalmers, Senior Instructional Technologist; Barry Germond, Instructional Technologist; and Maurice (Mo) Krochmal, multimedia editor, copy wrangler and coach.
We intend this to be an interactive community effort focusing on matters of local importance that may not have been discovered by larger media entities. To that end, we will be calling upon our neighbors in Nassau – focusing mainly (at least initially) on Uniondale, Hempstead and Mineola – for ideas and input. We also want you to call upon us. Our telephone number is 516-463-5010; our fax number is 516-463-4866; our e-mail address is: editor@nassaunews.org
Please let us hear from you. Let us know about neighborhood issues, injustices, upcoming meetings, celebrations, religious occasions, restaurants off the beaten path, milestones, sports leagues, interesting places to hang out for fun or intellectual stimulation or healing, candidates for person of the week or pet of the week. And anything else that you want to see in Nassau News!
